Application Systems Tech Specialist – Seattle

Group Health Cooperative is seeking a senior level Java programmer in an enterprise environment. We are looking for an individual who is able to work within a Lean/Agile team environment, possesses excellent analytical skills and is an effective communicator. Technical expert in one or more highly specialized areas of applications systems analysis and programming. Provide technical leadership on complex projects. May act as expert in business or functional area. Formulate and define system scope and objectives. Devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems considering computer application structure, technical capacity and desired results. Prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written or modified. Design, code, test, debug and document programs. May be responsible for all phases of projects, including overseeing the work of other applications systems analysis and programming staff. Perform analysis, design, coding, testing, documenting, implementation and maintenance tasks for complex web-based projects. Participate on Agile project teams with business users and other analyst/programmers. Assist in problem definitions, resolution activities and participate in an operational on-call rotation.Requirements:Experience requirements:Minimum: 8 years using and maintaining applications software, including systems analysis and design experience. Preferred: Additional experience programming, developing and maintaining applications software, including systems analysis and design. Knowledge requirements:Minimum: Knowledge of specific languages and tools used in the applicable technical environment. Understanding of computer programming languages and system design concepts. Analytic, interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred: Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies; MVC; version control, perferably Subversion; software management tools, such as Maven, Continuum, JUnit and Ant; comfortable with XML, JSP and XSLT development to optimize database access; SiteMinder or other Single Sign-On technologies; MS SQL Server or Sybase; Spring Framework 2x; Ecilpse IDE; Ability to deploy and manage applications on Tomcat and WebSphere; develop Stored Procedures and Spring JDBC Templates; Write basic Unix scripts; Portlet development experience using JSR-168 and knowledge of Vignette 7.x a plus as well as in SOAP, Hessian, IBM MQ Series and Apache Axis. Education requirements:Minimum: Bachelors degree or equivalent training and experience. Training in specific programming languages, tools, systems analysis and design techniques and project management methodology. Preferred: A minimum of 5 years experience with server-side Java development, a solid understanding of (OOA/OOD) principles and experience designing and developing n-tier distributed systems. Five years experience with Relational Database servers and the ability to optimize database access.
