| ASSISTANT ROLE DESCRIPTION Assistants at L'Arche Seattle share their lives as part of a faith community of persons with and without intellectual disabilities. Assistants should have a desire and a capacity to live with, learn from, and relate to people with intellectual disabilities on a personal level, as well as the ability to work well on a team. L'Arche Seattle is required to complete a criminal background check and driving record review on all new applicants. In addition, applicants are required to complete a health screening (including a T.B. test). These steps will be completed during the application process and applicants are NOT expected to provide this information with the initial application. Qualifications: • 19 years of age or older • College education preferred • Desire to live and grow in Christian community • Desire to work with individuals with disabilities; experience may be desirable • Creativity, flexibility, attention to detail and ability to organize time • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Independence and maturity as noted in: • Ability to share responsibility for managing a home • Ability to work as part of a team • Ability to take responsibility for health and safety of others • Ability to work and live with diverse individuals • Ability to commit for one year • American Sign Language proficiency desirable Responsibilities: • To build a relationship of mutual care and support with persons with disabilities • To foster a home life of unity, mutual respect and participation by all members • To provide direct care supports for, and empower core members in: • Personal care needs (clothing, hygiene, etc.), money management, medical care, appointments, family and work connections, household chores, laundry, medications, meal preparation, transportation • To participate in a team, including sharing responsibility for: • Household maintenance and upkeep, shopping and financial management • Scheduled routines, community celebrations and events and the work of committees • Attending regularly scheduled meetings • To complete all required training • To complete tasks within required time • Must be able to communicate and advocate effectively with doctors and other personnel Ad provided by Idealist.org |
